School Organisation

Children enter our Infant Department in the September of the school year in which they become five. There are six mixed ability infant classes: two in Reception, two in Year 1 and two in Year 2. Children move into the Junior Department at the end of the academic year in which they are seven. In our Junior Department, we currently have thirteen mixed ability classes: four in Years 3, 4 & 5, three in year 6.  Children may move up to the next year group as a class or the entire year group is re-organised to suit the needs of the children or the school. There may also be times when individual children move into a different class.

We provide classroom organisation and teaching strategies which allow children to receive the individual help that they need. This means that there will be a sound balance between class, group and individual work.

A CHILD'S DAY

The children begin their day at 8.55am finishing at 3.15pm in our Infant Department and 3.25pm in the Junior Department. Your help in ensuring that your child arrives at school by the correct time is appreciated. Children may go into their classrooms from 8.45am.  There is a staff member on duty in the main playground from 8.30am enabling your child to be left from this time.

In the Infant Department, we ask for your co-operation in making sure that children are met promptly at 3.15pm and that we know exactly who will be collecting them.

During the day, there is a break of fifteen minutes in the morning and lunchtime lasts for one hour fifteen minutes. Our daily Assemblies are an integral part of school life.

The hours spent on teaching during a normal school week are 22.25 in the Infant Department and 23.5 in the Junior Department.

LUNCH

Lunchtime is from 12 midday to 1.15pm. We are lucky to have a large kitchen where meals are cooked each day. Our caterer offers a wide choice of meals and will always make allowances for vegetarians, religious observance, or food allergies, if she knows them in advance. School lunches cost £2.15 per day, £10.75 per week. Payment may be made termly, half-termly, monthly or weekly online via Wisepay, our online payment system. Application forms for free meals for those receiving Income Support, Income Based Job Seeker's Allowance, Child Tax Credit/Pension Credit or Income Related Employment Support Allowance are available from the School Office.

Many children bring packed lunches and we provide table space and supervision for them in the dining hall, on picnic tables outside or in classrooms.

We aim to create a well mannered atmosphere in which our children can eat their meal together, as we believe that this is an excellent opportunity for social training.

UNIFORM

We have a school uniform of royal blue and grey with flat black shoes. A list of the uniform is available from the school office and is on our website. Sweatshirts, cardigans, PE shorts and T-shirts with the school logo, together with ties, PE bags and book bags can be ordered through the school.

All clothing must be marked with the child's name. Order forms for name tapes and taggits are available from the school office.

Second-hand uniform is available from the Parent Teacher Association, and sales are held from time to time during the school year.

THE HOUSE SYSTEM

The school operates a house system which encourages and rewards good work and behaviour. All children are allocated to houses and house captains are selected from Year 6. Staff award house points acknowledging good behaviour, work/homework, courtesy, teamwork, extra efforts etc.

Each week the house points are added up and the winning house captains are awarded the house cup at Friday’s Assembly. At the end of each term, a party is held for all members of the winning house.
