Our Learning this term
|Topic: Wild Weather|
This term we will be basing our learning on our weather topic. The children will have opportunities to write different types of poems, diary entries and weather reports. We will be studying the book ‘The School that went to Sea’ as we lead up to writing our own adventure story.
In maths the children will be learning about place value, addition and subtraction and writing numbers both in numerical and word form all the way to 100. We will also be looking at measurement. Our weekly arithmetic homework will focus on number bonds to 10 and simple additions.
This term will begin to look at different spelling patterns as well as recapping the Year 1 high frequency words and we will be focusing on applying these in our writing. New spellings are sent home every Friday with a spelling test the following Friday morning. The children will also be given opportunities to practise their spellings during the week.
|History & Geography||
In Geography we will be looking at different weather types in the United Kingdom. The children will also learn about different extreme weather types as well as the seasons and why we have them.
Every Friday we have a spelling challenge linked to the spelling pattern that we have learnt that week. Please check your child's Home School Diary for any updates at the end of the week.
This year we have also introduced weekly arithmetic homework based on number bonds and simple additions. These are sent home every Friday alongside spellings and will be collected in by the following Thursday at the latest.
Games takes place on Monday morning during Autumn 1 and PE on Friday morning.
