Our Learning this term
This term our topic is all about journeys. We will be looking at texts detailing different journeys and writing our own versions. We will be looking at The Day The Crayons Quit and writing our own letters. We will also be learning about James Cook and linking this to our writing.
In maths we will be extending our learning in all areas as we prepare for Year Three. We will also be focusing on children’s reasoning skills, drawing upon what they have learnt this year
This term will mainly focus on using suffixes as well as the Year 2 common exception words and we will be focusing on applying these in our writing. New spellings are sent home every Friday with a spelling test the following Friday morning. The children will also be given opportunities to practise their spellings during the week.
|History & Geography||
This term in History the children will be learning about famous explorers such as Edmund Hilary and Captain James Cook. We will be making links to geography (maps, continents, oceans) too.
Every Friday we have a spelling challenge linked to the spelling pattern that we have learnt that week. Please check your child's Home School Diary for any updates at the end of the week.
This year we have also introduced weekly arithmetic homework based on number bonds and simple additions. These are sent home every Friday alongside spellings and will be collected in by the following Thursday at the latest.
PE takes place on Friday morning. Ladybirds swim on Monday afternoons and Dragonflies take part in Games during the week
