Our Learning this term
|Topic: The Great Fire of London|
This term our topic is The Great Fire of London and our literacy work will be focused on this through writing diaries, making a fact file and writing our own adventure story based on the event. Our SPAG for this half term we will be learning about noun phrases.
In maths the children will be revisiting in more depth place value and multiplication and division. This term there will also be a big focus on mental maths especially for their 2s, 3s, 5s and 10 times tables.
This term will begin to look at different spelling patterns as well as the Year 2 common exception words and we will be focusing on applying these in our writing. New spellings are sent home every Friday with a spelling test the following Friday morning. The children will also be given opportunities to practise their spellings during the week.
|History & Geography||
This term in History our topic is The Great Fire of London. The children will learn what it was, why is started, why it spread and how it was stopped. They will be linking this learning to our literacy lessons too.
Every Friday we have a spelling challenge linked to the spelling pattern that we have learnt that week. Please check your child's Home School Diary for any updates at the end of the week.
This year we have also introduced weekly arithmetic homework based on number bonds and simple additions. These are sent home every Friday alongside spellings and will be collected in by the following Thursday at the latest.
PE takes place on Friday morning. Dragonflies swim on Monday afternoons and Ladybirds have a coach Monday mornings for Games.
