This week in science we are going to be developing our knowledge of nutrition and what we need to eat to stay healthy!
The five food groups we learned about last week are useful for quickly deciding whether our meals and snacks are providing us with a balanced diet. The nutrition we get from our food is actually a little more complex.
Every food we eat contains different amounts of something scientists call nutrients. There are seven different nutrients. A yoghurt, for example, contains lots of protein, a good serving of minerals, some carbohydrate and a little bit of fat. Bread, however, contains high levels of carbohydrate, some minerals and a little bit of protein. No two foods contain exactly the same levels of each nutrient! All is explained in the video below...
