Week 1 - 5/1/2021
For this week, we have been using The Hobbit as a stimulus for writing. We are exploring the first chapter of the book with a focus on comprehension and narrative writing. The writing focus is 'using speech effectively in narrative'.
Below you will find a video which explains each day's learning and a timetable for the rest of this week. As always, this is a suggestion and please feel free to adapt it to match your family's timetable.

Use the video to explore how speech is used in The Hobbit and what the characters are like.
Use the Tuesday worksheet to write ideas about what dwarves and Hobbits are like and what they might say. |
Use the video to remind yourself how to punctuate speech accurately.
Use the graphic novel example to practise writing speech punctuation and related narrative. |
Use the video to generate ideas for the writing task: to retell the events of the clip and showing off your speech writing skills.
Use the picture sequencing to help plan your writing. Remember, we wouldn’t complete the whole thing in one lesson and we don’t expect you to at home either! |
Finish and edit your writing carefully.
If you want to, you could publish your writing or illustrate it. |
