Thank you so much for all attending our first 'virtual' parents' evening! It was so lovely to catch up with you, even if was just for a short 10 minutes. We are so proud with how all of the children have adapted to Year 1 life and how they have taken the learning challenges in their stride, they are a real credit to you.
This half term, our topic is Celebrations. We will be uploading a curriculum overview to the website very shortly, so you can see what it is that we get up to at school, as we are very aware that sometimes when asking the children what they did at school today the answer are usually 'nothing' or 'I can't remember'! So watch this space!
This week in Literacy we learnt all about the festival of Diwali and began to re-tell the story of Rama and Sita. Watching the children act out the story has been great and they are very good at getting into character! Next week, we will be having a go at writing the story to build up our stamina for writing and give them the opportunity to show us what they can 'independently' do.
In Maths, we have moved onto our addition & subtraction topic and have been looking more closely at number bonds to 10. We have also introduced three different methods for helping solve addition and subtraction problems - the bar model, part, part, whole & fact families. Next week we will be moving on to subtraction and using the 'crossing out' method.
A few notes:
It is getting chillier now and as we are having to keep the classrooms well ventilated please can we ask that children are coming to school wearing layers! We do realise that most of the time they are hot and bothered from running around but as we move into more 'sit down style learning' the chill might set in!
We are going to start taking in reading record books on a Monday morning, to ensure that the children are changing their reading books often and reading to an adult at home at least 4 times a week. Please can we ask that you make a note of when you are reading with your child in their book.
We hope that you and your families are well and hope that you have a lovely weekend.
Very best wishes,
Year 1 Team x
