Year 2

Welcome to the Year 2 home page.

In this area, you will be able to find out what we shall be learning in Dragonflies and Ladybirds, look at good examples of learning, browse photographs and find your homework and spellings. There will also be some links to some useful webpages that we use.

Our learning this term

Spring

Topic: Twisted Fairy Tale

Literacy

This term our topic is Mixed Up Fairy Tales. The children will have the opportunity to read lots of different books and eventually build up to writing their own version of a traditional tale. Our Grammar is focusing on past and present tense and the children will get to practise this within their literacy writing.

Maths

In maths the children will be revisiting in more depth place value and multiplication and division. This term there will also be a big focus on problem solving. Using the knowledge we already have and applying this to different word problems.

Spellings

Spelling is taught on a Monday morning and tested on Friday morning. New spellings are sent home on a Friday.

History & Geography

This term in Geography we are looking at oceans and continents. We will be learning to name these and be able to identify them on a map. We will also be looking at the differences between the continents and comparing them.

Don't forget

Every Friday we have a spelling challenge linked to the spelling pattern that we have learnt that week. Please check your child's Home School Diary for any updates at the end of the week.

This year we have also introduced weekly arithmetic homework based on number bonds and simple additions. These are sent home every Friday alongside spellings and will be collected in by the following Thursday at the latest.

PE takes place on Tuesday afternoon for Dragonflies. Games takes place on Wednesday morning outside. Ladybirds also swim on a Monday afternoon up until Easter.
