Governing Body Information

The main governing body is made up of a number of individuals with a wide range of skills to help help support and challenge school leaders.

To support its role, the Governing Body delegates some of its functions to two separate committees:

  1. Teaching and Learning Committee
  2. Business Committee

Each committee and the whole governing body meet at least once a term.

The core functions of the governing body are:-

  • Ensuring that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
  • Ensuring that the head teacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
  • Overseeing the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources

A governing body and its governors must act with integrity, objectivity and honesty and in the best interests of the school.

The governing body also has legislative responsibility and strategic oversight for the school’s safeguarding arrangements.

The Governing Body has adopted a Code of Conduct which all governors sign up to:

Governors are allocated specific areas for which they are responsible for seeking further assurance and reporting to their colleagues.  Governors visit the school, both formally and informally, and this gives them a good insight into the day-to-day running of the establishment, as well as helping them in their role as ‘critical friends’. The School Development Plan, reviewed annually, is closely monitored by the governors.

Together, this governance structure helps to provide assurance that the school is performing well, able to improve, and is complying with relevant duties and requirements.

The Governing Body has agreed that part 1 of its in-person meetings in 2025-2026 are open to attendance by observers and the protocol for attendance is available below:
