Pupil Premium

PUPIL PREMIUM

The Pupil Premium funding is intended for schools to improve the achievement of disadvantaged children. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium funding, which is an allocation of additional funding, is the best way to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to help them achieve better and to close the gap in their educational attainment between themselves and their peers.

Pupil Premium funding eligibility includes children:

  • who are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM);
  • who have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at some point in the last six years (known as Ever 6 FSM);
  • who have been 'looked after' continuously for one day or more;
  • who have been adopted from care or have Special Guardianship;
  • who has a parent currently working in the armed forces or has done so in the last 5 years (Ever 5 for service child).

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium funding as they see fit to enhance the education of targeted children. However, schools are held accountable for how they have used the additional funding and at The Greville we aim to create an education where children are inspired and nurtured in order to achieve in many ways. We have used this funding, principally, to increase the small focus group teaching and emotional well being sessions provided by qualified practitioners.

Since September 2012 schools have been required to publish online information about how they have used the Pupil Premium. This ensures that parents and others are fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by this funding and the extra support they receive.
